Spolchemie makes capital investment into
Germany’s Campa AG (6.12.2007)
New multinational biofuels producer formed; Setuza will also be a part
The group of companies that make up the Via Chem Group signed an extensive co-operation agreement with the top German biofuels producer, Campa AG. The aim of the agreement is to set up long-term strategic co-operation between Spolchemie and Setuza and their German partners.
The first item in the co-operation agreement is a capital deposit to be made by the Ústí-based chemical company, Spolchemie, into Campa AG. Through a capital increase valued at 10 million EUR, Spolchemie will gain a 25% stake in Campa AG.
„With this investment we have insured long-term deliveries of glycerine for Spolchemie,“ comments general director for Spolchemie and Setuza, Martin Procházka.
Spolchemie is the third largest producer of epoxides on the European market. Spolchemie uses glycerine, which is created is formed as a by-product from biofuel production, during epoxide manufacturing processes. During this year, in fact, the company launched a unique, globally-patented technology for the production of epichlorohydrine. This substance replaces petroleum products by renewable energy sources during the epoxide production process.
The Via Chem Group – Campa AG agreement also includes provisions for integration of the Ústí-based food manufacturing company, Setuza, into the joint Czech-German holding. The will result in the formation of a multinational biofuels producer and oilseeds processor with production capacity in Bavaria’s Straubing, Ústí nad Labem and Olomouc.
„The merger will strengthen our position on both the Czech and German markets. It will bring purchase of raw materials, production and sale all under one roof. Setuza will thus become part of a multinational project with all relevant benefits that stem from such co-operation,“ continued Martin Procházka.
Via Chem Group and Campa AG will both have a 50% stake in the joint venture. Setuza owns technology for production of 150.000 tonnes of biofuels. Campa also has similar capacity in its Straubing plant. Within two year’s time it increases this capacity to 350.000 tonnes. The joint venture, with a combined capacity of 500.000 tonnes, will be the top biofuels producer in the entire region.
